A Life Remembered . . .
Rita M. Schaffer

November 30, 1930 - September 2, 2005
 

Rita M. Schaffer, age 74, of Three Degree Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died peacefully Friday, September 2, 2005 at 2:10 p.m. at U.P.M.C. Cranberry Place in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.

Born November 30, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the Edward and Marie Robesh Mueller.

Mrs. Schaffer retired from Butler County Community College and she worked in the financial aid department.  Mrs. Schaffer was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  She was active in her church, she sang in the choir and was part of a women's trio.  She also volunteered and participated in small groups at her church.  Mrs. Schaffer enjoyed traveling in the motor home with her husband over the years.

She had a beautiful smile and made many friends throughout her lifetime.  During her last year of life, she was touched by caring doctors, nurses, and aides at the Butler Memorial Hospital, the Butler Dialysis Center, the Butler Regional Cancer Center and by the Cranberry Place.  Her family and friends surrounded her with love, encouragement, support and prayers.

Mrs. Schaffer will be missed by her caring husband of over 50 years, William R. Schaffer; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Diane) Hillwig of Dover, Ohio; a son, Glenn R. Schaffer of Butler, Pennsylvania; three special grandsons, Jay, Joel and Jordan Hillwig; two sisters, Jane Cunic of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Emily Mueller of Detroit, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. 

One brother preceded Mrs. Schaffer in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 4, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, September 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend J. David Panther, pastor of her church, officiating.  Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.
