John Henry Betts

John Henry Betts, 82, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 15, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at his residence.

He was born October 9, 1929 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania to the late Ferdinand Betts and Marie Elizabeth Millhimes Betts.

Mr. Betts served as a Seaman in the United States Navy at the close of World War II and during the Korean War in various ports of call. He worked as a Sales Engineer at Landis Machine / Teledyne until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Betts was a 32nd Degree Free Mason. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and coin collecting.

Mr. Betts is survived by his wife Evelyn Elizabeth Betts, whom he married on June 20, 1953; two sons, John Betts and his wife, Grace of Mechanicsburg, PA and Kenneth Betts and his wife, Mary of Butler, PA; one daughter, Sharon Kleeman and her husband, Doug of Butler, PA; five grandchildren, Jennifer, John-Robb, Julia, Jackie, Sonya; three step grandchildren, Nicole, Steve and Becky; nine great-grandchildren & step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ferdinand Betts; seven nieces; and four nephews.

Friends will be received Friday, November 18, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.

A Memorial Service is being planned for a later date.

Interment will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made the American Cancer Society Greater Pittsburgh, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or the Butler Blind Association, 322 North McKean Street, Butler, PA 16001.
