Samuel A. Bruno

Following a brief illness, Samuel A. Bruno, 97, of Butler, Pennsylvania passed away on September 30, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

Born February 13, 1914, in Heilwood, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Frank Bruno and Carmela Mareona Bruno.

He was a graduate of the Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP), and the George Washington University Law School. Mr. Bruno was a member St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.

Mr. Bruno was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. during World War II, served in the Pacific Theater of Operations and was released from active duty as a Major in the USMCR. He was an attorney and retired as the Regional Claims Attorney for the Western Pennsylvania Region of the Nationwide Insurance Company. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Butler YMCA, and a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge #170 and the VFW. He was a former Board Member of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. He was also a past board member and president of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and was the recipient of PDI's 1985 Insurance Executive Award. Mr. Bruno was a former member of the Lakeview Racket Club, Lake Arthur Country Club and the Armco Golf Club.

Surviving are his wife, R. Evelyn Bruno, whom he married on November 15, 1952; a brother-in-law, Donald W. Taylor, and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bruno was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Entombment will take place in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 313 West Cunningham Street, Butler, PA 16001 or to the donor's favorite charity.
