Gordon Wayne "Deek" Emerick

Gordon Wayne "Deek" Emerick, 64, of Meridian, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 31, 2012 at 5:23 p.m. at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 28, 1948 in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Wayne F. Emerick and Hazel M. (Rettig) Emerick.

Gordy worked in the Department of Transportation (trains & tracks) as a turn foreman, starting with Butler Armco Steel and retiring under A.K. Steel in 2007. He was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gordy was a life sponsor and life member of Ducks Unlimited and the Meridian Vets Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam era with a rank of Lieutenant. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a 1966 graduate of Butler High School.

Gordy is survived by his wife, Norma (McNany) Emerick, whom he married on November 20, 1993; one son, Trevor Wayne Emerick; one daughter, Autumn Raylene Emerick; three nephews; one niece; two sister-in-laws, MaryAnn Appleton and Pamela Cashmere both of East Brady, PA; and one brother-in-law, Norman McNany, Jr. of Chicora, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brother-in-laws.

Friends will be received Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 6 to 9 pm at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. from the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Jefferson St., Butler, PA, with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman officiating.

Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.

Officers and Members of the American Legion Post # 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post #249 will conduct graveside military services.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Greater Pittsburgh, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or to the American Diabetes Association, Western Region, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
