Wilbur P. Heist, Sr.

July 10, 1910 - October 8, 2004
 

Wilbur P. Heist, Sr., 94 of North Duffy Road, Butler, died Friday, October 8, 2004 at 2:45 a.m. at his residence.

Born July 10, 1910 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John G. Heist and Dilse Stevenson.

He worked as a greenhouse grower for Crighton's Greenhouse at the age of 86 years old and Eislers Nurseries for 17 years. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Penn State College of Agriculture. He farmed in the 1940's and 1950's. Having numerous careers he worked for Bortmas Greenhouse until they closed. He also worked for Butler Co-op in poultry management and as a security guard for Pullman-Standard. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and growing plants, especially flowers.

Mr. Heist is survived by one son, Phillip W. Heist, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania, one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Sage of California, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Ethel Heist of Chicora Medical Center, and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Heist is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brown Heist who passed away in 1990, and by one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Monday, October 11, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Monday, October 11, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. with the Reverend Richard Leseganich of St. Mark's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in South Cemetery.
