Elizabeth Amelia (Ries) Jeffreys

Elizabeth Amelia (Ries) Jeffreys, 96, of Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Valencia, passed away on December 31, 2014 at 4:30 a.m. at the Saxony Health Center.

She was born September 3, 1918 in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania to the late Albert Frederick Ries and Louisa (Robinson) Ries.

Elizabeth was employed by Kaufman's in Pittsburgh for about 35 years, retiring in 1982. She was Protestant by faith and belonged to Eastern Star in McKeesport. She loved to garden, grow plants and enjoyed nature. Elizabeth also enjoyed hobbies of baking, sewing quilts and clothing and watching her pure-bred Arabian horses, dogs and cats play and frolic on her acreage.

She is survived by one daughter, Valjean Champ and her husband Ronald; one son, Nathaniel Jeffreys, Jr. and his companion Ann Hays of Butler, PA; three grandchildren, Warren Champ and his wife Kimberly of Washington, PA, Bethany Champ and her fiancée Mike Graham of Butler, PA and Tammy Boice and her husband Dwight of Butler, PA; three great-grandchildren, David Champ, Jeffrey Champ and Brianne Yusko; one brother, Gordon Ries of Baden, PA; one sister, Hilda Von Moose of Somerset, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel O. Jeffreys, who passed away January 9, 2003; a sister, Beatrice Hicks; and two brothers, Frederick Ries and Donald Ries.

Friends will be received Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA with David R. Champ, great-grandson of the deceased and Director of Youth and Family Ministry at Westfield Presbyterian Church of New Castle, PA officiating.

Entombment will take place in the Pinewood Memorial Park, Cranberry Twp., PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the YWCA of Butler, 120 West Cunningham Street, Butler, PA 16001 or the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
