Gene Marl Karenbauer

Gene Marl Karenbauer, 66, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 17, 2015 at 11:45 a.m. at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 16, 1948 in Chicora, Pennsylvania on the family farm to the late James Karenbauer and Hazel (Mottern) Karenbauer.

Gene was a veteran of the United States Army in the 1st Calvary Division as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he worked construction. Gene then worked at Armco/AK Steel, retiring in March 2003 with 35 years of service. Following retirement, he worked at Hovis Auto Body. He was a member of the East Butler Firehall, the VFW Butler 249 and was a former member of the Oneida Bow hunters and a former Mason. Gene enjoyed archery and rifle hunting, gardening, casino trips and especially his beloved grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra (Clark) Karenbauer, whom he married September 5, 1970; one son, Jason Karenbauer and his wife Heather of Mercer, PA; two daughters, Amber Tressler and her husband Dan of Butler, PA and Ashley Bohler and her husband James of Baden, PA; five grandchildren, Madison Tressler, Gavin Tressler, Alyse Karenbauer, Chase Karenbauer, Peyton Bohler; his step-mother, Rose Karenbauer; one brother, Brad Karenbauer of Butler, PA; one sister, Jana Becker of Glennallen, AK; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Karenbauer; and two sisters, Raylene Rekich and Renae Strobel.

Friends will be received Monday, July 20, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.

Private funeral services and burial in the North Butler Cemetery of Oakland Township will be held Tuesday.

Full Military Honors will be accorded by Officers and members of the American Legion Post #117 Butler, PA, the American Legion Post #778 Lyndora, PA and the VFW Post 249 of Butler
