Mary B. Kirkpatrick

April 23, 1921 ~ January 18, 2012

 

Mary B. Kirkpatrick, 90, formerly of Oak Hills Heights, passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Sunnyview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Butler April 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. Badger and Lois Gould Badger.

Mary went to Indiana College for a Fine Arts Degree, but left early to tend to her ailing mother. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked in the offices of Armco. Mary worked at Kirkpatrick's Sporting Goods as a bookkeeper and as a Pendleton buyer for the store till her retirement. Her favorite thing in the world was spending summers with her kids and their friends at the cabin in Tionesta, PA. She was a Boy Scout den mother, helped with all the muscular dystrophy carnivals, field trips, bake sales and everything else her kids volunteered her for. She was a great seamstress and Halloween costume maker and even went ghost hunting one Halloween with her daughter and friends. Mary was always soft spoken, gentle and INFINITELY patient and loving.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Carol Kirkpatrick of Butler, PA; one son, Scott Kirkpatrick of Franklin, PA; one brother, Dr. Frank W. Badger of Charleston, WV; and by her ABSOLUTE BELOVED pup pup, Mr. Toby a Golden Retriever/ Great Pyrenees.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Kirkpatrick, whom she married May 3, 1946 and who passed away April 20, 2007; one brother, Robert Badger and one grandson, David "Scotty" Kirkpatrick.

There will be no public visitation.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. at Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second Street, Butler, PA 16001 with Reverend Bill Hudson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Greater PA, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
