McClaine, 87, of Butler, PA passed away on Monday,
January 16, 2017 at her daughter’s home in
born April 3, 1929 in Marwood, PA to the late
Kenneth W. Hesselgesser and Ruth E. Freehling
graduated from Winfield Township High School and
received a business degree from Butler Business
College. She worked as the Executive Secretary to
the President of Union Trust Company and later as a
teacher’s aide at Butler Junior High School.
She met the
love of her life J. Don McClaine in business
college. They were married from October 1, 1950
until Don’s passing on May 29, 1989.
a member of the Eastern Star and a Deacon and Elder
of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was a long
time member. She watched over her children’s
education as an active member of the Butler Parent
Teacher Association and later as a teacher’s aide in
the Butler School System. She later served on the
Butler Township Recycling Committee. After
retirement, she pursued her passion for flowers and
gardening by serving as the President of the Herbal
Thymes Club and President of the Oak Hills Garden
full of life, generous and immensely creative with
an intellect far above her limited education. She
treasured conversations with family and friends and
was always eager to make a new acquaintance. She
loved flowers, butterflies, gardening, traveling,
and, most of all, her family and their many pets.
survived by her daughter April L. McClaine of
Hummelstown, PA; her son Nicholas D. McClaine and
his wife Melinda of Cabot, PA; her son Douglas K.
McClaine and his wife Carolyn of Valencia, PA; her
sister Nancy H. Sutton of Saxonburg, PA; her sister
Mary Jo McGrath and her husband Albert of Butler,
PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
family will be received on Monday, January 23, 2017
from 6-8 pm at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc.,
124 E. North Street, Butler, PA. Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11:00 am
at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. James Swanson of
Covenant Presbyterian Church will officiate.
A private burial will take
place in Butler County Memorial Park.
