Beverly A. McClaine

April 3, 1929 ~ January 16, 2017

Beverly A. McClaine, 87, of Butler, PA passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Hummelstown, PA.

She was born April 3, 1929 in Marwood, PA to the late Kenneth W. Hesselgesser and Ruth E. Freehling Hesselgesser.

Beverly graduated from Winfield Township High School and received a business degree from Butler Business College. She worked as the Executive Secretary to the President of Union Trust Company and later as a teacher’s aide at Butler Junior High School.

She met the love of her life J. Don McClaine in business college. They were married from October 1, 1950 until Don’s passing on May 29, 1989.

Beverly was a member of the Eastern Star and a Deacon and Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was a long time member. She watched over her children’s education as an active member of the Butler Parent Teacher Association and later as a teacher’s aide in the Butler School System. She later served on the Butler Township Recycling Committee. After retirement, she pursued her passion for flowers and gardening by serving as the President of the Herbal Thymes Club and President of the Oak Hills Garden Club.

Beverly was full of life, generous and immensely creative with an intellect far above her limited education. She treasured conversations with family and friends and was always eager to make a new acquaintance. She loved flowers, butterflies, gardening, traveling, and, most of all, her family and their many pets.

She is survived by her daughter April L. McClaine of Hummelstown, PA; her son Nicholas D. McClaine and his wife Melinda of Cabot, PA; her son Douglas K. McClaine and his wife Carolyn of Valencia, PA; her sister Nancy H. Sutton of Saxonburg, PA; her sister Mary Jo McGrath and her husband Albert of Butler, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North Street, Butler, PA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. James Swanson of Covenant Presbyterian Church will officiate.

A private burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.
