Lawrence Joseph McCracken

September 25, 1925 ~ December 24, 2011

 

Lawrence Joseph McCracken, 86, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 24, 2011 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 25, 1925 in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Clyde McCracken and Hazel Knapp McCracken.

Mr. McCracken was a member of North Street Christian Church. He was in the United States Coast Guard serving in World War II. Larry was a Sheet Metal Worker for Local 12. Mr. McCracken was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #249 and the America Legion Post #117. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #694 and the Syrian Shrine. Mr. McCracken was a avid golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles, was a true handyman and loved to help or lend a hand to friends and family. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Mr. McCracken is survived by his loving spouse Virginia who he married on September 12, 1986; three sons, Charles L. (Joanne) McCracken, Robert L. (Debra) McCracken and Timothy J. McCracken; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leila Jane Winters McCracken, his second wife, Maxine Rockenstein McCracken, two brothers, Richard McCracken and Russell McCracken, and also by one sister, Margaret McCracken.

Friends will be received Wednesday, December 28, 2011 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011, 11:00 am at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Pastor Robert Huber, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Greater Pittsburgh, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.

Officers and members of the American Legion Post #778 Lyndora, and the VFW Post #249 will conduct military services at the Chapel of All Faiths Mausoleum at Greenlawn Burial Estates.
