Richard J. "Dick" Miller

Richard J. "Dick" Miller, 88, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 12:45 A.M., at the VNA Inpatient Hospice. Dick received a personal invitation to spend eternity with Our Lord and Savior. We are pleased to say that he graciously accepted the invitation.

He was born May 11, 1929 in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late John W. Miller, Sr. and the late Irene F. Freeman Miller.

Mr. Miller was a graduate of Butler High School and Grove City College, and received his Mortuary Science degree from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1963, Dick was invited by his father-in-law, R. Glenn Thompson, to become a partner in his funeral home. Mr. Miller has since been a vital part of Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. for over 54 years. He was formerly active in many local civic organizations including various Masonic groups, Butler Country Club, Red Cross, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, and Butler Memorial Hospital Advisory Board. Above all, Mr. Miller was a devoted family man, always putting Christ at the head of his family. Among family and close friends, Dick was known for his sincere blessings over every meal.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria Thompson Miller, whom he married on June 25, 1955; two daughters, Barbara L. "Barb" Miller of Erie, PA, and Robin S. Miller of Butler, PA; one son, Glenn T. Miller and his wife Leslie of Butler, PA; and his special canine friends, O'Shea, Liesl, and Juneau .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John W. "Jack" Miller, Jr.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 1:30 - 3:30 & 6 - 8 pm at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Pastor Robert C. Huber of North Street Christian Church, officiating and the church that Dick grew up in.

Private Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Miller family requests donations be made in Dick's honor to either the organization that trained O'Shea, Canine Companions For Independence, 4989 State Route 37 East, Delaware, OH 43015, or to VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Dr., Butler, PA 16001.
