LaVone H. Payne

November 26, 1916 - July 23, 2004
 

LaVone H. Payne, 87 of Butler, formerly of Slippery Rock, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at 9:45 a.m. in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born November 26, 1916 in West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Jay M. Hilliard and Helen Scott.

Mrs. Payne was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School and Slippery Rock State Teacher's College. She then earned a master's degree in education at the University of Pittsburgh. She was schoolteacher for Mars, Mount Lebanon and Butler Area Schools.

Mrs. Payne was a former member of the Jr. Women's Club and Intermediate League. She was a member of the St. Jude Golf Club for many years and she was a member of the local Butler County Branch of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and National Education Association and the Association of Adult Retired Persons.

Surviving are her niece, Mrs. LaVone Elverson and her nephew, Mr. Jeffrey Croll both of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, and three great nephews and their families. Preceding her in death were her husband Robert B. Payne who was deceased July 28, 1998 and one sister, Vevia Croll Flack.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, Sunday July 25, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., following visitation Sunday July 25, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend James Campbell, her church pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.
