Shirley Ann
Critchlow Phipps, of Butler, Pennsylvania, age 72,
passed away on October 5, 2011 at the Good Samaritan
Hospice.
She was
born August 7, 1939 in Harrisville, PA to the late
Warren Critchlow and Evelyn Bartley Critchlow.
She was a
member of First United Methodist Church of Butler.
Mrs. Phipps graduated from Harrisville High School
in 1957 and attended Asbury College, receiving a BA
in Sociology. She worked as a Social Worker for
Butler County, retiring February 2007. Mrs. Phipps
served as President of First United Methodist Women
and she was a teacher of the post high school Sunday
School class for 25 years. She was on the board of
Butler County Mental Health, CCR Board and a Stephen
Minister. As a cancer survivor, Mrs. Phipps was a
speaker to patients and caregivers for cancer
support.
Mrs. Phipps
is survived by one daughter, Sharon Stone and her
husband, Pat of Butler, PA; two sons Reverend Dr.
Rich Phipps and his wife, Marsha of Manor, PA and
Randy Phipps and his wife Rita of Perrysburg, OH;
six grandchildren, Katie Stone, Tyler Stone,
McKnenna Phipps, Abigael Phipps, Matthew Phipps and
Kade Phipps; one brother, Richard Critchlow and his
wife Roseanne of The Villages, FL; two nephews, Rich
Critchlow of New York and Tim Critchlow of New York,
and one niece, Debbie Critchlow Williams of FL; one
great nephew and two great nieces.
Friends
will be received at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home,
Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Friday, October 7, 2011 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm
to 9:00 pm
Funeral services will be
held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at
the First United Methodist Church, 200 East North
Street Butler, PA, with Reverend Dr. Rich Phipps of
Community United Methodist in Manor, PA and Reverend
Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist,
officiating.
Burial
will take place in the Prairie Cemetery in
Harrisville, PA.
