John R. "Jack" Scott

November 11, 1923 - December 8, 2003

John R. "Jack" Scott, 80 of Freeport Road, Butler, died Monday, December 8, 2003 at 11:05 a.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born November 11, 1923 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John M. Scott and Beulah Painter.

Mr. Scott was a member of St. John Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, New Kensington, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in WW II.

Mr. Scott was retired from the maintenance department at Armco. He served as chief-of-police in Petrolia and went to teach H.V.A.C. at Triangle Tech. From there he served as a technical advisor for Aramco in Saudi Arabia for twelve years. In 1994 Mr. Scott was employed by the State Department and served as a technical advisor to the American Embassy in Moscow, Russia.

An avid aviator, Mr. Scott had a private pilot's license, a military pilot's license, and on F.A.A. approved commercial pilot's license and served as a flight instructor during World War II.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Vera Parshook Scott, two sons, John R. Scott, Jr. of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, William L. Scott of Butler, Pennsylvania, three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Valentina) Kay of Harrisville, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Barry (Keira) Wulff and Thaisa Summers both of Butler, Pennsylvania, seven grandchildren, and number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Scott is preceded in death by his son, Leon Scott and sister, Bettie Stewart.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

There will be a Parastas Service on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. from the Funeral Home.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Paul Ziatyk officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
