Edith Ruth Sherman, 88,
formerly of Assisted Living at Newhaven Court in
Butler, PA, passed away on December 28, 2012 at
5:13 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Hospice at
Concordia, Cabot, PA.
She was born May 23,
1924 in Prospect, Pennsylvania to the late Merle
McKinnis and Helen (Barnhart) McKinnis.
Mrs. Sherman was a
homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's
Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed bowling,
traveling and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Sherman is
survived by two daughters, Karen Anthony and her
husband Donald of Butler, PA and Leslie Stewart
and her husband Ronald of Chicora, PA; three
grandchildren, Careen Gibson and her husband
Joseph of Chicora, PA, Donald Anthony of West
Newton, PA and Jennifer Rose and her husband
Michael of Jerome, PA; four great-grandchildren;
five sisters, June Reed of Butler, PA, Faye King
of Butler, PA, Edna Mae Knauer of Butler, PA,
Bonnie Bolton of Butler, PA and Sandra Henricks
of Slippery Rock, PA; and a number of nieces and
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Raymond K. Sherman, whom she married,
March 30, 1948 and who passed away August 27,
1988; one brother, Howard Pete McKinnis; and two
sisters, Ruby Brown and Betty Allison.
Friends will be
Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8
p.m. at the
Thompson - Miller Funeral Home,
Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East
North St. Butler, PA, with Reverend Dr. Alden
Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran
Entombment will take place in the Butler
County Memorial Park.
