Shawn Benjamin Slater

September 1, 1987 - September 12, 2005
 

Shawn Benjamin Slater, age 18 of Stone Church Road, Prospect, Pennsylvania, collapsed Monday evening, September 12, 2005 while on the sidelines of a soccer game between Portersville Christian School and The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf of which he was a participant. He was rushed to nearby U.P. M. C. Shadyside but passed away shortly thereafter.

Shawn lived an exemplary life because he had no fear of death because he believed the ultimate part of his life was when he would see Jesus and pass into his arms.

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1987 he was the son of Alan D. Slater and Alberta B. Stevenson Slater.

Shawn was a member of Beersheba Church in Prospect, Pennsylvania and a member of Portersville Bible Church's youth group. He was a senior at Portersville Christian School, a member of National Honor Society, Who's Who of American High School Students, National Honor Roll and Highest Honor Roll and was on course to be his graduating class' Salutatorian .He also received the American Legion Award. At school he was active member of the basketball and soccer teams and also participated in weightlifting. He was a member of drama class and chorus and had roles in three school productions; Honk, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and The Butler Did It. He enjoyed hunting, archery, paintball, fishing and jogging.

In addition to his parents he is also survived by one brother, Eric Alan Slater and one sister, Laura Lynn Slater both living at home, his paternal grandmother and step-grandfather Paul & Rita Slater of Mulberry, Florida, his maternal grandmother, Veva (Tootie) Stevenson of Prospect, Pennsylvania, and by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald E. Slater and his maternal grandfather George A. Stevenson Jr.

Friends and family of Shawn Slater will be received at The Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, September 15, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, September 16, 2005 from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Portersville Bible Church.

Funeral services will be from the Portersville Bible Church on Friday September 16, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend George Stevenson, III of Beersheba Church and Reverend Mike Charles of Portersville Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow in The Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt. Chestnut, Pennsylvania.
