Matthew Lee Smith, 62, of Hagerstown, Maryland formerly Butler, PA, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born January 19, 1958 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph W. Smith and the late Shirley Mae Wimmer Smith. Matthew worked as a System Analyst for High Mark Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 11 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, as a system specialist. Matthew loved golfing, high performance cars, and playing the violin. He was Protestant by faith. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Laura E. Lawson of Hagerstown, Maryland; one brother, Mark (Robin) Treider of York, PA; one sister, Sandy Jesteadt of East Butler, PA; three nephews, Michael (Erica) Treider of York, PA, Andrew Jesteadt of Prospect, PA, Jordan Lawson of Seattle, WA, and one niece, Hannah Lawson of Seattle, WA. Friends will be received Sunday, July 12, 2020, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020, at 10:00 am at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Reverend Robert S. Edmundson, officiating. Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205. In accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines mandated by the state of Pennsylvania, face masks are required.
