Martha Thomas

January 9, 1909 - December 30, 2005

Martha Thomas, age 96, of Sherman Avenue, East Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at 1:20 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 9, 1909 in Dubois, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Amos DuBois and Sarah McCloskey Gilbert.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of the East Butler Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker. She worked in the custodial department at Castle Rubber Company in East Butler, Pennsylvania for 22 years before her retirement in 1974. She was a member of the American Association for Retired Persons.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by three sons, Fred D. Thomas of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania, Harry R. Thomas and James A. Thomas both of East Brady, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Janet) Nocera and Mrs. Eugene (Mabel) Hays both of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Donald (Sarah) Bortmas of East Butler, Pennsylvania; 26 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, and a number of great great grandchildren; two brothers, James Gilbert and Kenneth Gilbert both of Dubois, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Burris of Phoenix, Arizona and Mrs. Marjorie Hoffman of Rochester, New York and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Harry Thomas, died September 12, 1946. Two sons, a granddaughter, a grandson, two great great grandchildren, two sisters, seven brothers, and three daughters-in-law also preceded her in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, January 2, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mary J. Sickles, her church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Memorial contributions may be made to donor's favorite charity.
