Donald E. "Tommy" Thompson

Donald E. "Tommy" Thompson, 83, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 10, 2015 at 8:42 a.m. at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born August 11, 1931 in Little Washington, Pennsylvania to the late John Thompson and Florence (Thompson) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as well as being stationed in Japan and Thailand. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with 28 years of service. Mr. Thompson then went to work at Pratt Whitney in Florida for 17 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #117 and enjoyed cars, swimming, scuba diving and flying.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Joan V. Thompson, whom he married October 20, 1951; four sons, Scott Thompson and his wife Dottie of Cranberry Twp, PA, Brian Thompson of Butler, PA, Dale Thompson and his wife Sandy of Medford, OR and Alan Thompson and his wife Teri of McKeesport, PA; two daughters, Donna Spinhirne and her husband James of Albuquerque, NM and Charisse Bunyan and her husband Leroy of Renfrew, PA; thirteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA with Pastor Ken Tack of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Knox, PA officiating.

Officers and members of American Legion Post #117, American Legion Post #778 and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military honors following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Yellow Ribbon Girls, 1328 Woodside Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Karen Padglek for everything she has done for "pap" over the years and the American Legion Riders.
