Wells, age 71 of 128 Country Club Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died
Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 6:38 a.m. in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born November 1, 1933 in Mingo Junction,
Ohio he was the son of the late Sylvester Wells and the late Oma
Weeks.
Mr. Wells was employed as manager, data
processing operations, equipment and services for American Hardware
Supply Company and Servistar Corporation from 1974-1991. Previous
employers were Republic Steel Corp., Motorola, and Dayton Hudson Corp.
(now Target Corp.)
Mr. Wells was a member of the First
United Methodist Church. He graduated with a B.S. at the University of
Akron and an M.A. at Arizona State University, a former doctoral
candidate at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member and former
board member of the Butler Country Club, Penn Township Veterans
Association, American Legion Post #117, Keystone, Great Plains and Jay
Hawk Wings of the Commerative Air Force. He was a former pilot and
co-founder of the Butler County Airport Aviation Association, and a
member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society.
Ross formerly served as chairman and
treasurer of the Butler County Airport Authority from 1994-1999, was
currently a member of the Airport Authority, a former board member for
the United Way and the Moraine Trails Council of the BSA, a former
president of the Butler Area Data Processing Management Association, a
former member of the Butler Rotary Club and a part-time instructor at
the Butler County Community College. He was one of the initiators of
the annual Armed Forces Day Hangar Dance recognizing WWII veterans and
as a member of the Penn Township Veterans Association, was
instrumental in getting the Cobra Helicopter currently on the pylon at
the Butler County Airport for Butler.
Ross served in the US Air Force during
the Korean conflict as a ground and airborne radar operator. His
special interest included general aviation, World War II aviation,
golf, boating, and sports.
Mr. Wells is survived by his wife Donna
L. Weiland Wells whom it married on December 30, 1986, by two sons,
Bruce R. Wells of Haymarket, Virginia, Richard T. Wells of Butler,
Pennsylvania; three daughters, Barbara VanBuren of Greenville,
Pennsylvania, Melissa A. Thie of Huntsville, Alabama, Andrea L. Krise
of Mooresville, North Carolina; one step-son, Mark Young of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two step-daughters, Jacquelyn Gray and Kelly
Chapman both of Butler, Pennsylvania; fourteen grandchildren and
step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Allen C. Wells
of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Glenn C. Wells of Steubenville, Ohio; and a
number of nieces and nephews
There will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home,
Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.
