Elmer A. "Redd" Yost, 91, of
Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 19, 2013 at
2:10 a.m. at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation
He was born September 25, 1921
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Albert F. Yost
and Rolena M. Humes.
From 1955 to 1982 Mr. Yost was
the proprietor of Yost Shoes on North Main Street. From
1982 to 2010 he continued to operate his business doing
shoe repairs from his home. He was a docent at the
Maridon Museum on North McKean Street for almost 10
years. Mr. Yost was a member of Oak Hill Christian
Church where he was a church elder and participated in
the church activities. He was a former member of North
Street Christian Church where he was a lay minister,
elder and choir member. He enjoyed Biblical Archeology
Studies and made three visits to the Middle East. Mr.
Yost enjoyed classical, big band and jazz music. He
liked ornate clocks and glass.
Mr. Yost is survived by one
son, Christopher R. Yost and his wife Patty of Eau
Claire, PA; one daughter Susan E. Logan and her husband
Robert P. of Butler, PA; three grandchildren Christopher
R. Yost, Jr., Jeremy M. Yost and Maya A. Yost; one half
sister, Joann Pyle and her husband Temple of Louisiana ;
three nephews, Michael D. Walker, Alan S. "Skip" Yost
and Paul F. Yost.
In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by his first wife Mary E. "Betty"
Yost whom he married on November 27, 1947 and passed
away on April 3, 1979 and also by his 2nd wife Charlotte
Yost whom he married in August of 1994 and who passed
away on August 6, 1996; one brother, Albert F. Yost,
Jr.; one half brother Albert F. Yost, Jr.; one sister,
Dolores "Dolly" Walker; and one niece, Mary Lea Walker.
There will be no public
A memorial service will be held to honor Elmer later
Private burial will take place in
the Greenlawn Burial Estates.
