Eugene "Gene" Behrens, age 76 of Butler,
Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at his
residence. Born November 2,
1931 in Palmyra, New York he was the son of the late Pearl Lake.
Mr. Behrens was a sales manager for
Keystone Electric, still working after 51 years. He was a member of
Nixon United Methodist Church. Mr. Behrens was a member and current
president and past fire chief in the Penn Township Volunteer Fire
Department. He was instrumental in the creation of the Butler County
HAZMAT team. He was member of the American Legion Post #117. Mr.
Behrens was an assistant coach for the Center Township Athletic
Association from 1985-1996 and a member of the Butler Area Baseball
Association and prep league coach from 1996 - 2000. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
Mr. Behrens is survived by two sons
and their wives, Steven and Sue Behrens of Granby, Connecticut,
Scott and Theresa Behrens of Chicora, Pennsylvania; by two daughters
, Mrs. Teresa and her husband Fred Bauder of Harrisville,
Pennsylvania, Mrs. Susan and her husband George Spiridonakos of
Sewickley, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren, Christopher, Brian,
Kevin, Matthew, Joseph and Joshua Behrens, Michelle Foran and
Nichole and her husband Jason Geibel, Ryan and Nicholas Bauder,
Michael and Sophia Spiridonakos; four great grandchildren, Marcus
Lantz, Kailyn Behrens, Chloe Geibel and Madalyn Geibel, three
brothers, Robert and Connie Lake, Edward and Lorraine Lake, James
Lake all of New York and by a number of nieces and nephews and his
companion, Donna Eozzo.
Mr. Behrens was preceded in death by
his wife, Laura Marie "Laurie" Walker Behrens whom he married on
November 28, 1953 and who passed away on July 2, 2005 and also by
one sister, Shirley Gelardos.
Friends will be received at the
Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler,
Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m. and also
Sunday, June 1, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson
- Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
with Reverend Bruce Merrit of Nixon United Methodist Church
officiating. Interment will follow in Brownsdale Cemetery.
