Helen Marie Hoover

April 8, 1920 - July 11, 2008

Helen Marie Hoover, a direct descendent of Captain John McCollough and William S. and Hannah McCollough, age 88, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania, formerly of Milheim Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, and R.D. #1 Chicora, Pennsylvania, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at 4:11 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.

Born April 8, 1920 in Chicora, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Herbert (Herb) and Loretta Callihan McCollough.

Mrs. Hoover 's employment included the Butler County Agricultural Agency, the former Jay Shoppe in Butler and also managed her own sales consultants for Fashion Two Twenty Cosmetics in Butler. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Chicora, Pennsylvania. As a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital's Ladies Auxiliary she volunteered as the jewelry buyer for the Cherry Tree Gift Shop. Her love of music was expressed as a member of the Pedal Pushers Club.

Ms. Hoover is survived by one son, David Herbert (Herb) Frazer of Chicora, Pennsylvania; four daughters, Marjorie Sherwin Broderick and her husband, Tom, of Forest Hills, Pennsylvania, Mary Phaneuf and her husband, Richard, of Sarasota, Florida, Carol L. Frazer of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, and Susan Matthews and her husband, Terry, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, one sister, Jean R. Dornon of the Passavant Retirement Village, Zelienople, Pennsylvania and by one niece, one nephew, and one great nephew.

Ms. Hoover was preceded in death by one brother, Charles (Chuck) R. McCollough and two grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 4 to 9.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jack Hartman, Chaplain of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillview Cemetery in Chicora, Pennsylvania.

Helen established The F. H. McCollough and Helen M. McCollough Clinical Opthalmology Research Fund, UPMC Health System Department of Development, 200 Lothrop Street , Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213-2582. The family requests contributions to this fund be considered as an option to flowers.
