George R. Martin, age 88 of Parkcrest
Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 11:09 p.m.
in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born September 21, 1919 in Batavia, New
York he was the son of the late George F. Martin and the late Alice
Martin.
Mr. Martin was a sales representative
for Heywood-Wakefield Co. of Gardner, Massachusetts and other
furniture manufacturers for 40 years. He was a member of First
United Methodist Church of Butler. Mr. Martin was a veteran of the
U.S. Army Air Corps serving during WW II. He was a member of the
Butler Elks Lodge #170, the F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge of Gardner,
Massachusetts and the American Legion Post # 117. Mr. Martin liked
to golf, fishing and boating. He was also active with Habitat for
Humanity for many years.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife,
V. Eloise Watson Martin whom he married on October 14, 1944, and by
one daughter, Deborah L. Smith of Wexford, Pennsylvania; one son,
Paul L. Martin of Biddeford, Maine; and by four grandchildren.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by
his sister Alice Davis of Tucson, Arizona and his brother, Donald
Martin of Manhattan Beach, California.
Friends will be received at the
Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler,
Pennsylvania on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at the First
United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with
Reverend J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church
officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery. |
