Robert Williams Moore, Sr. age 91, of
Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away quietly in his sleep surrounded by
his family on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 4:11 a.m. at Concordia at
Rebecca Residence. Born in
Butler, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1916, he was the son of the
late Matthew James Moore and Annetta Williams Moore.
He was a graduate of Butler High
School and a veteran of The United States Army serving in Europe as
a Captain during World War II.
Mr. Moore was a jeweler and owned and
operated Milo Williams Jewelers until his retirement.
He was a member of Covenant United
Presbyterian Church, the Syria Shrine Temple, Ancient Accepted
Scottish Rite, The Kiwanis Club of Butler, the Butler Country Club,
the American Gem Society, and the Pennsylvania Retail Jewelers
Association.
He was past president of the Downtown
Butler Businessmen's Association. In 1972, he served as president of
the Western Pennsylvania Guild of the American Gem Society. He also
served on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Retail Jewelers
Association and in 1979 was voted Jeweler of the Year.
His interests included playing golf,
spending time with his family and serving his community. He enjoyed
watching NASCAR races with his son and grandsons, as well as being
involved in his grandchildrens' sporting events.
His wife, Joan Wasson Moore, survives
him. They were married on April 10, 1943. He is also survived by one
son: Robert Williams Moore, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania; two
daughters, Pam Patterson of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Cheri Hays of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Jessica Hays of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cole Patterson of Butler, Pennsylvania ,
and Ryan Patterson and his wife Kristin of Tappahannock, Virginia
and by four nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one
brother, James Moore and three sisters, Ruth Mixer, Altha Campbell,
and Elsie Moore, and by one nephew, Tom Mixer.
A private family service will be held
at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street,
Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 with the Reverend James Swanson of
Covenant United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will
follow in the North Side Cemetery, Butler, Pennsylvania.
