Arthur Wade Percy, Jr., age 82 of
Weckerly Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at
1:30 p.m. in Concordia Lutheran Care, Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born April 11, 1926 in Butler,
Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Arthur W. Percy, Sr. and the
late Georgia Hutzley Percy.
Mr. Percy was a foreman in the Forge
Locomotive and Machine Shop at Armco for 39 years, retiring in April
of 1986. He was a member of Nixon United Methodist Church. He served
36 years on the church's board, choir member and president of the
United Methodist Men's Group. Mr. Percy was a 1944 graduate from
Penn Township High School. He was a sergeant in the Army during WW
II serving in the Philippines and Japan from 1944-1946. Mr. Percy
was a member of the Armco Mgt. Club. He was a life member of
Tanglewood Senior Center, the VFW #249, past master of Victory Lodge
#694 F&AM, formerly sang with the Musical Theatre Singers and Bob
McGinnis Singers. Mr. Percy was a former gunsmith, hunter, and
furniture maker. He was a Penn Township Supervisor, for 18 years he
served on the Penn Township Zoning and Hearing board, he was a
Deputy Sheriff, he was president of Penn Township Vol. Fire Co. in
1979, Vice President of the Penn Township Ambulance Service and EMT
for many years. He received the Silver Beaver Award in scouting and
served as district chairman and district commissioner. He was active
in Penn Township troop #34 from 1976-1979.
Mr. Percy is survived by his wife,
Marion Kirkwood Percy whom he married on May 10, 1952; by five sons,
James and his wife Cara Percy, of Ohio, Jon Percy and Sheila Ruble,
of Kansas, Mark and his wife Carole Percy of Butler, Pennsylvania,
Thomas Percy, of California, Roger and his wife Lisa Percy of
Butler, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren,
two sisters, Shirley and her husband Fred Cimino, of California,
Nancy Burkher, of California, three sister-in-laws, Carol Sawford of
Butler, Pennsylvania, Jean Percy of New Kensington and Velora Percy
of Las Vegas, Nevada, one brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and
Janet Kirkwood of Butler, Pennsylvania and by many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Mr. Percy, Jr. was preceded in death
by two brothers Carl and George Farrell and one sister Patricia.
Friends will be received at the
Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler,
Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Nixon
United Methodist Church on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with
Reverend Bruce K. Merritt of Nixon United Methodist Church, Reverend
Henry Hall and Reverend Keith Dunn, former ministers at Nixon United
Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn
Burial Estates.
