Loyal Dewitt Stewart

January 9, 1931 - July 3, 2008

Loyal DeWitt Stewart, age 77 of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 1:05 p.m. at his home.  

Born on January 9, 1931 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Stanley Ross Stewart and Twila A. Umstead Stewart. 

Mr. Stewart was a field auditor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania retiring on January 26,1996. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Stewart was an escort for the Butler County Area on Aging and a long time volunteer for the First United Methodist Church Community meals. He also volunteered at the V A Medical Center in Butler as a wheelchair escort. Mr. Stewart enjoyed world band radio, history and visiting family. He also was a stamp collector and a veteran of the United States Army Serving during the Korean War. 

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife Donna M. Shields Stewart, whom he married on March 5, 1954, by three sons, Loyal Douglas Stewart and his wife Amy of Beltsville, Maryland, Bruce Alan Stewart and his wife Nina of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Gordon Bradley Stewart and his wife Rebecca of Wilmington, Delaware, by five grandchildren, Joshua, Ailisa, Benjamin, Liadin and, Liam, by one brother, Donald R. Stewart of Butler, Pennsylvania, and by a number of nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by one sister Catherine Weibel and one brother Ralph Ross Stewart. 

Family and friends of Loyal Stewart will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001, on Sunday, July 6, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. 

Funeral services will be from the funeral home on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend J. David Panther of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations to the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
