Dorothy M. Burdine, age 85, formerly of
Daytona Beach, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday,
January 16, 2010 at 4:30 a.m. in Butler, Pennsylvania, where she
resided with her niece and nephew, Jennifer and David Brown.
Born Saturday, July 24, 1924 in Yancey,
Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Reverend Clarence J.
Tuggle and Nannie Scalf Tuggle.
Her husband, Carson C. Burdine, died
February 6, 1990.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed
gardening, writing poetry and painting.
Mrs. Burdine was a member of White
Chapel Church of God in Daytona Beach, Florida where she enjoyed
teaching both children and senior adults in Sunday School. She was
active and served as President of the Women of the Church of God,
and she was manager of the White Chapel Church of God Thrift Store
for many years. She was always willing to open her home to others
for women's meetings and prayer groups.
Surviving are one daughter, Teresa
McCay of Birmingham, Alabama; her niece, Jennifer and her husband
Reverend David Brown of Butler; five grandchildren, seven great
grandchildren; one sister, Mickey Bentley of Neon, Kentucky; and a
number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by seven siblings: her brothers, Art, Paul,
Marvin, and J.B. Tuggle, and her sister, Rubby Cunningham. She had a
sister, Mary Ruth, who was stillborn and one brother, Gene Edgar,
who died as an infant.
Friends and family of Dorothy Burdine,
who died January 16, 2010, will be received at White Chapel Church
of God from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. with a celebration of her life
immediately following. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Lohman's
Cemetery in Daytona Beach, Florida.
