Violet Catherine "Sis" Leise Cratty

Violet Catherine "Sis" Leise Cratty, age 91,of Franklin Township, died at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 2, 1919, in Portersville, Muddy Creek Township, she was the daughter of the late Mary "Tillie" (Barkley) Leise and Howard "Pete" Leise.

On June 4, 1943, at the home of Rev. George Cheeseman of Portersville, she married W. Blair Cratty of Franklin Township. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1991.

Mrs. Cratty was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Prospect, the Keenagers of Portersville and the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center. Her life was devoted to helping her husband on the farm, raising their children, tending her garden and fruit trees--along with canning and freezing. She appreciated beautiful flowers, was an avid reader of non-fiction books and was an enthusiastic fan of country music and of photography.

Surviving are three children, Marian E. Talbert of Eau Claire, H. Gordon (Dawn) Cratty of Franklin Township, Butler, and Nancy E. (Erich) Vierthaler of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Julie Graham, Eric (Diedra) Graham, Marc Talbert, Richard (Marcy) and Brian Talbert and nine great-grandchildren, Robyn, Jonathan, and Anthony Graham, David, Karri, Dakota, Shannon, Ronan, and Jayce Talbert. She is also survived by one sister, Joan (Jack) Courtney of Prospect, three brothers, Glenn Leise of Volant, James (Barbara) Leise of Slippery Rock, Roy (Margaret) Leise of Portersville, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two infant sons, one sister, Blanche Durnell, and a brother, Hope Leise.

Funeral service were held privately held at the family's request.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Community Library, 357 Main Street, Prospect, Pennsylvania, 16052.
