Ruth H. Holmes

Ruth H. Holmes, age 90, of Concordia at the Orchard, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Westwood Manor, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 3:15 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 20, 1919 in Renfrew, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James H. Reed and Sara Nicklas Reed.

Mrs. Holmes was married to Willard H. Holmes in 1935 who passed away on May 8, 2009.

Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker, and a member of Fenelton United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member and treasurer of the Missionary Society for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Betty J. Cumberland and Mrs. Howard (Gladys R.) Graham, both of Butler, and Mrs. Joseph (Debra L.) Simco of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn Pietrowski and her husband, Daniel; Laura Nichol and her husband, Daniel; Jeffrey Cumberland and his wife, Susan; Sherry Collins and her husband, Stephen; and Michelle Gladd and her husband, Rick; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great-grandson. Also surviving Mrs. Holmes are three sisters, Esther Miller, Jean Boyd, and Jane Stephens and her husband, Robert; one brother, James Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by an infant son, and her son-in-law, David C. Cumberland, who died on June 5, 2009.

Friends of Ruth H. Holmes, will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, December 14, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, December 15 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Maitland of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
