Harry B. Leighton, Jr., age 90, formerly
of Meridian, Pennsylvania died Monday, January 4, 2010 at 1:55 p.m.
at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born November 3, 1919 in Evans City,
Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry B. Leighton, Sr. and
Ida Lutz Leighton.
Mr. Leighton retired in 1983 from
Butler Armco where he was Superintendent of Shipping and Traffic. He
graduated from Evans City High School and attended New Castle
Business School. He served as a Staff Sergeant in World War II and
was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. Mr. Leighton was
a member of North Street Christian Church. He was a life member and
past Commander of the Meridian Veterans Club, a member of the Butler
Elks Lodge #170, the Pittsburgh Traffic Club, and he had been an
advisor for Junior Achievement.
Mr. Leighton, Jr. is survived by one
son, Jim (Joan) Leighton of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; two daughters,
Sally (Ralph) Cooper of Butler; Debra Garvin of West Chester, Ohio;
three grandchildren, Jim (Alison) Leighton of Ford City,
Pennsylvania; Kelli (Brad) Myers of Adrian, Pennsylvania; and
Krystal Garvin of New York City, New York; and four
great-grandchildren, Joshua, Evan, and Alyssa Leighton and Stefani
Myers.
Mr. Leighton was preceded in death by
his wife, Dorothy Kradel Leighton, who died March 14, 2006; two
brothers, Harold and Jim Leighton, and his son-in-law, Douglas
Garvin.
At the request of Harry B. Leighton,
Jr. there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
