Mark F. "Barney" Sherman, age 88, of
North Road, Butler, died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 11:45 a.m. in
the Butler Memorial Hospital .
Born March 17, 1921 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the
late Charles Sherman and Mary Post Sherman.
Mr. Sherman was a Metallurgist for
Armco. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mr. Sherman served in the U.S. Army Air Corp.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife,
Olla Sherman, whom he married on June 30, 1942; three daughters,
Carol Thomas and her husband, Robert of Butler; Patti Schwabe of
Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Charlotte "Cookie" Walls and her
husband, Reith, of Poulsbo, Washington; and one daughter-in-law,
Viki Sherman. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Eric Thomas and
his wife, Jean, of Cranberry Township, Mark Thomas of Butler, Gail
Purvis and her husband, Al of Freeport, Jill Aaron and her husband,
Kevin of Butler, Michael Sherman of Butler, Raymond Schwabe and his
wife, Jennifer of Gahanna, Ohio, Andrew Schwabe and his wife,
Rebecca of Gap, Pennsylvania, Sarah Obernberger and her husband,
Matt of Poulsbo, Washington, and Reith Walls III and his wife, Amber
of Omaha, Nebraska; eighteen great-grandchildren, Emily and Haley
Thomas, Marky and Aylssa Thomas, Abigail and Savannah Purvis, Tyler,
Nathan and Amelia Aaron, Kate Busby, Emily Harris, Raymie and Alexa
Schwabe, Faith Schwabe and Ian Schwabe, Jaden and Miley Walls and
Peyton Obernberger.
In addition to his brother, Frank
Sherman of Butler, Mr. Sherman is survived by several nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by
his son, Mark Dennis "Denny" Sherman, one son-in-law, Ray Schwabe,
and one grandson, Scott Thomas.
Friends will be received at the
Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler,
Pennsylvania on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson
- Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10:30
a.m. with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical
Lutheran Church and Jeff Lawther of Mars Alliance Church
officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. |
