Renea Marie (Byrns) Shields, age 48 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 8:05 p.m. at her residence.

Born August 5, 1961 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of Dr. James E. Byrns and Virginia L. (Menanno) Byrns.

Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Hempfield Area Senior High School and BCI School of Business. She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and medical transcriptionist for various doctors' offices and hospitals.

Mrs. Shields is survived by her husband, Martin Shields whom she married on May 14, 1983; four daughters, Kristen Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania, Hilliary Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania, Allisyn Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania, Natalie Shields of Butler, Pennsylvania; her parents, Dr. James E. and his wife Virginia L. Byrns of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; one sister, Dr. Koreen Byrns of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; one brother, James Thomas and his wife Rebecca Byrns of Chattanooga, Tennessee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Isabelle Shields and by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by sister, Stacy Byrns Burlas, infant nephew, Stephen Byrns Burlas, paternal grandparents, John and Amelia Byrns, and maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Concetta Menanno.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, Pennsylvania.

St. Paul and Christian Mothers will meet at 10:10 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the church to recite the rosary.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family for an education fund to be established for Renea's daughters.
