Donald Andrew Steffan

Donald Andrew Steffan, age 69, of Villa Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 1:51 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 11, 1940 in Natrona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Andrew Steffan and Loretta Kaniecki Steffan.

Mr. Steffan was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Chicora, Pennsylvania where he was past President of the Church Council. He graduated from Har-Brack High School, Penn Technical Institute of Pittsburgh, and New Kensington Commercial College.

He served in the United States Navy as a hospital Corpsman Operating Room Technician. He was employed at American Hardware - Servistar Corporation for 39 years where he was a computer operations supervisor. He served on the Karns City School Board for 12 years, ten of which he served as president. The intermediate IU-IV Board of Directors, Butler Area Vo-Tech Board of Directors and Pennsylvania School Board College of Directors. He started the Karns City Boys Elementary Basketball Program, coached little league baseball and Karns City Youth Football. He filmed Karns City Varsity Football for thirty years and was a charter member of the Gremlin Quarterback Club. He served on the Butler County Lafayette Committee that recommended the Butler Government Center. He served on The Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors. He played Santa for many organizations, such as Karns City Schools and personal friends for years. He received the first Karns City Teachers Golden Apple Award. He was a member of American Legion Post # 778 Lyndora, where he served for three years as Post Adjutant, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Gold Brigade. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Steffan is survived by his wife, Diana Simpson Steffan, whom he married on August 17, 1968; two sons, Troy Andrew Steffan and Quay Donald Steffan, both of Butler, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Abbey Steffan; one sister, Mrs. John (Carol) Cieslinski of Natrona, Pennsylvania; two nieces, Lynnette Bastin and Tracey Maskas; and two nephews, Steven Simpson and Patrick Preston.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m..

There will be visitation before the service on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, Pennsylvania 16025.

Services will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend James A. Higgins of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.
