As a locally owned, independent funeral establishment with a long history in Butler, PA, Thompson-Miller Funeral Home understands your needs during the hardest of times. Our funeral directors will help you create a ceremony that is meaningful and fully affordable for you and your family. Whether burial, entombment and/or cremation, our staff can take care of all the arrangements, relieving you of all unnecessary burdens.

Before, during, and after…our family is here for you.  We understand what "full service" means. We are a complete full-service funeral home, providing assistance on all aspects and options of funeral services and merchandise.

Service Options

We realize that every life lived is unique. We encourage families to include special touches to remember their special loved one. Perhaps the most important part of our service is explaining the many ways you can make a funeral a personalized, meaningful celebration of the life that has been lived.

Consequently, no two funerals should be alike, nor should they be. Every family has their own traditions, beliefs, customs, and faith, and we strive to accommodate each family's special needs and wishes. 

We also strive to provide funerals within everyone's budget. As a locally owned firm, we understand the importance of keeping costs within a budget. Because we offer a wide choice of services, families can select only what is affordable and meaningful to them. Every service is performed with dignity and receives personal attention, regardless of what is chosen.

We offer a complete selection of funeral merchandise including: Caskets, Burial Vaults, Grave Liners, Cremation Urns and Monuments and Markers, along with other items that can help personalize services. As with our services, these items are available in a variety of styles that will meet your needs, desires and budget. 

Our Funeral Directors are fully educated, licensed and experienced in all aspects of funeral and cremation service, along with being caring, compassionate and dedicated to helping people. 


   The following are services our Funeral Directors will assist you with:

  • Complete Funeral Prearrangement Planning (funded and non-funded options) in the convenience of your own home or at the funeral home

  • Twenty-four (24) hour staff availability. As death can occur within any given moment, we provide round the clock efficient care in your time of need.

  • Thompson-Miller has always taken the matter of telephone coverage as a highly personalized service, never relinquishing this responsibility to an answering service or other third party. A staff member receives phone calls.

  • The transfer of the deceased from the place of death to the funeral home

  • An arrangement conference with the family to plan specific details for the funeral

  • Preparing the obituaries and placing it in any newspapers or radio stations requested by the family

  • Assist in the selection of a casket and burial vault

  • Obtaining all necessary permits and authorizations, as required

  • Ordering special floral pieces at the family's request

  • Arranging for Pallbearers and motor equipment, including limousine for the family 

  • Coordination of details with clergy

  • Arranging for visitations at the funeral home, church, or other location

  • Private family gathering previous to public visitation

  • Locating the deceased's doctor to sign a death certificate; then filing this certificate at the local health department; obtaining the requested amount of certified death certificates for the family

  • Arranging for a personalized remembrance package including Picture Boards and Memory Tables, Prayer and Mass cards, Acknowledgement Cards, an Assistance Guide, and a Cross/Crucifix, etc.

Custom Memorial Folders - customize with a favorite poem or verse and/or a picture of the person who has died; these can be distributed at the services

Memory Tables - a place for personal items and/or pictures to be displayed at the services 

Picture Boards - a "life through pictures," this allows family and friends to show everyone the special people and events in a person's life 

Establishing a memorial - in the name of the person whose has died is another way to honor the memory and the life of a loved one.

  • Arranging for Graveside service with interment

  • Arrangements for military or fraternal honors

  • Complete assistance with Veterans and Social Security Death Benefits, Life Insurance processing, union or fraternal insurance processing, etc.

  • Filing of life insurance claims

  • If a family chooses not to have a service with burial or entombment, we offer cremation options, immediate burial plans, and anatomical donation.

  • Abbreviated Service with same day visitation/funeral 



Additional Services

  • Our  Grief Companion dog, O'Shea, is available for comfort.

  • Out-Of-Town Arrangements (ship-in and ship-out, anywhere around the world) if death occurs away from home, Thompson-Miller can arrange all the details for you in any location on the continent and around the world.

  • We can also make the necessary arrangements for burial in a distant city. There is no need for you to travel to that city for the purpose of handling the details.

  • We offer an unique Bereavement Support Program, "Someone's Caring".

  • Tree Planting -Thompson-Miller is a member of a tree-planting program that plants a tree in memory of your loved one when a casket is purchased. Thompson-Miller recognizes the need for recycling and regeneration of our resources.

  • We continue our service to families after the funeral by assisting them in the selection of a monument and we are able to provide a quality marker at a very competitive price.

  • Speakers Bureau-We provide local churches, civic organizations and school groups availability to our Speakers Bureau--in which we can discuss a wide array of topics related to anything from Advance Funeral Planning to Veteran & Social Security Benefits to Living Wills to Bereavement after the death of a loved one.
